  • The Nicene Creed is over 1600 years old. It is one of the oldest creeds in Christianity. It was formed as a result of the council of Nicea which aimed to solve any misunderstandings that had arisen within the Church.
  • A creed is a set of beliefs which guide someone’s actions. The creed represents a summary of Christian beliefs which are used in wordship. The Nicene Creed is a separate document so it isn’t found in the Bible.
  • The Nicene Creed has been passed down through generations because Christians believe that Jesus Christ is God's son, who died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead. This belief gives them hope and comfort when they face difficult times or suffer hardships.
  • Karma is when good actions have good consequences
  • Samsara is the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
  • Anatta is when you have no soul/ self. It goes back to the idea of impermanence
  • Nirvana is the state of being free from suffering. You reach this by following the Eightfold Path.
  • Dukkha is suffering. Suffering can be physical pain but also mental pain such as anxiety and depression.
  • Bhavachakra is the wheel of life
  • Metta is love and kindness
  • Karuna is compassion
  • A near Death Experience is when people are clinically dead but have a vision of heaven or hell
  • A hindu would live there life however they want and then they might be born into another body.
  • A buddhist would do good things for people and then be satisfied because they believe in karma
  • A chrisitan could do something wrong and then go ask God for forgiveness
  • A sikh would emphasise gender equality and would try to make everyone’s lives equal.
  • Truth is factual information based of fact and evidence
  • The Qur’an is the muslim holy book.
  • Iijtihad is effort, idependant reasoning.
  • Sunnah is the way of the prophet.
  • Shari’ah is the Islamic law, straight path.
  • Fitrah is the natural ability to know and worship God. Ijma means scholarly consensus.
  • The Hadith is the saying and teachings of the Prophet.
  • Challah is the Jewish memorial bread
  • A Tefillin is a small box that has scripture in it
  • The Tora is the Jewish holy text
  • Naam Simram refers to the meditation or contemplation of the various names and qualities of God
  • Moral evil is suffering caused by people.
  • Natural evil is suffering caused by nature.
  • Relative poverty is when households recieve 50% less than average household incomes.
  • Absolute poverty is a condition characterised by severe deprivation and lack of basic necessities.
