  • Symptoms of a strain are swelling, pain, bruising
  • Treat with rest, ice, compression and elevation
  • Rest is not using the injured areas to allow time to heal and prevent further damage
  • Ice helps as the cold will help reduce swelling and pain
  • Compression is applying a bandage to reduce swelling and provide support
  • Elevation is keeping injured area raised to reduce swelling
  • Cartilage acts as a cushion at the end of bones. Torn cartilage is an injury at a joint where small tears appear in the cartilage.
  • Symptoms of torn cartilage are pain swelling, stiffness at the joint
  • A sprain is an injury where some of the fibres of the ligament are torn
  • Symptoms of a sprain are pain, swelling and bruising
  • Concussion is a mild brain injury which is caused by a hit to the head or whiplash. a movement that causes the brain to shake inside the skull.
  • Symptoms of concussion are confusion, dizziness, unconsciousness, nausea
  • Dislocation is when one of the bones at a joint moves out of place. They are often caused by a fall or hit to the area
  • Symptoms of dislocation are pain, misshapen joint, swelling
  • Fractures happen when the force on the bone is stronger than the bone itself
  • Compound or open fractures are when the broken bone causes the skin to break adding additional complication of possible infection
  • Simple or closed fractures are when the bone does not break the skin
  • greenstick fractures is when the bone bends on one side ands breaks on the other
  • Stress fractures are caused through overuse and forms small cracks on the bone
