Describe the principle of size exclusion chromatography
It has
resin
made from
insoluble
polysaccharides
which form a
mesh.
Only
small
molecules can pass through the
mesh
and the
large
molecules are excluded via the
bead
matrix.
This means that proteins which an Mr
higher
than the
molecular
weight
cut
off
elute quickly.
The
smaller
molecules travel through the
resin
and so travel at a smaller
rate
causing them to elute
last.
