Dispositional explanation

• one strength of the dispositional explanation is that evidence from Milgram. Milgram interviewed small obedient sample. completed f scale. findings show 20 obedient ppts scored much higher than disobedient. 2 groups differ in terms of authoritarianism
• one limitation of dispositional explanation is that authoritarianism cannot explain obedience in majority of population. e.g. pre war germans were obedient and racist. unlikely to all have authoritarian personalities. alternative view is that many germans identified with anti-semitic nazis and scapegoated jews. alternative view is more realistic
