  • Passive reader
    Someone who takes the text very literally. This reader able to view the text on its surface.
  • Active reader
    Someone who interacts with the text. This reader engage in a "dialogue" with the writer.
  • Text
    A written part of the story, what happens and what is stated on the page. It is everything you see that is not implied.
  • Context
    Refers to the situation or circumstances surrounding a text. It may be about political, religious, social, cultural, or even personal.
  • Intertextuality
    The interconnectedness and interdependence between languages, images, characters, and themes in the context of reading.
  • Intertextuality
    • Metteo Bandello's novellas were the basis for some of Shakespeare's plays, including Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet originated in Italy, though the author or orator of the original legend seems to be a mystery.
  • Hypertext
    A term coined by Theodor Holm Nelson, refers to texts and any other related information on screen. It is a series of chunks connected by links that offer readers different pathways. It is non-linear or multi-linear that allows reader's navigation control.

    • Reasonable proof for the claim
    • Statistics, literature review, qualitative analysis, etc.
  • Conclusion and Significance
    • Explication of how the evidence proves the claim
    • Connections between the claim, evidence, and significance of the conclusion

  • Romeo and Juliet, play by William Shakespeare, written about
    1594-96 and first published in an unauthorized quarto in 1597.
    • In 1476, the Italian poet, Masuccio Salernitano, wrote a story titled Mariotto e Gianozza. The story takes place in Siena and centers around two lovers who are secretly married against the wishes of their families
    • In 1530, Luigi da Porta published Giulietta e Romeo, which was based on Salernitano's story.Every aspect of the plot is the same. The only differences are that Porta changed the names of the lovers and the setting location, Verona rather than Siena.
    • The first English translation is a poem called "The Tragic History of Romeus and Juliet" by Arthur Brooke and was published in 1562.
    • Followed quickly by another English version by William Painter in 1582 called "Palace of Pleasure"
