Science C3 (Energy)

Cards (24)

  • Force is shown in 3 ways, what are the 3 ways?
Push, pull and push and pull
  • What can force do?
    • Make an object move
    • Stop a moving object
    • Change the direction of a moving object
    • Change the speed of a moving object
    • Change the shape of an object
  • What are the 4 main contact forces?
Impact force, Strain force, Frictional force, air resistance
  • What is strain force?
    Tension between objects.
  • What is air resistance?
Force that opposes the motion of an object through the air.
  • What is frictional force?
    Resistance
  • What are the 2 main Non-contact forces?
    Magnetic force and gravitational force
  • What is a magnetic force?
Attraction or repulsion between magnetic objects.
  • What are the disadvantages of friction?
Wears out rubber and creates sound and heat.
  • What are the advantages of friction?
    Grip
  • How to reduce friction?
    Adding wheels or oil
  • What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object (Always stays the same), while weight is the force exerted on an object due to gravity. (Changes depending on the environment)
  • What is the order for geocentric solar system?
Earth, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Sun Jupiter, Saturn
  • What is the order for heliocentric solar system?
Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn
  • What is the difference between Heliocentric and Geocentric solar systems?

Heliocentric is the Sun in the center and all the other planets orbiting around it. While Geocentric is the Earth in the center and the Moon, the Sun and all the planets are orbiting around it.
  • Notes:
    • All planets have gravity
    • More mass=More gravity
    • Gravity forces between The earth and The moon makes the Moon orbit around the earth.
    • The Suns gravity is the strongest hence why all the planets orbit around the Sun.
  • When do Springs tides happened and how do they happened?
Spring tides occur during the full moon and new moon phases. They happen when the sun, moon, and Earth are aligned, causing the highest high tides and lowest low tides.
  • When do Neap tides happened and how do they happened?
Neap tides happen during the first and third quarters of the moon. They occur when the gravitational forces of the sun and moon are perpendicular to each other, resulting in the least difference between high and low tides.
  • Energy is separated to 2 forms, what are those 2 forms?
    Stored enetrgy and Transferred energy
  • Energy cannot be..
    Created nor destroyed.
  • What is chemical energy (Stored)

    Chemical from fuels
    ex-wood and oil
  • What is Thermal energy? ( Stored and transferred)
    Heat energy produced by fire
  • What is Electrical energy? ( Transferred)

An energy source created by power or electricity
  • What is elastic energy? ( Stored)
Potential energy stored in an elastic material when it is stretched or compressed.
