Types of Experiments

    Cards (3)

    • Laboratory experiment
the environment is artificial and controlled
the IV is manipulated directly by the researcher
    • Strength of lab experiments
high control over EV’s and CV’s
      high internal validity
can be replicated so is more reliable and validity can be checked
    • Weakness of lab experiments
lack generalisability as the environment is artificial and does not mirror everyday life
behaviour cannot be generalised beyond research-low external validity
demand characteristics may arise due to the artificial nature of exp.
tasks given in an exp. are often not everyday tasks-lack mundane realism
