The brain

• Parts of Brain:

  Cerebral cortex

  Cerebellum

  Medulla
• Cerebral cortex - controls consciousness, intelligence, memory and language. Outer part of brain
• Cerebellum - concerned with coordination of muscular activity. Towards the bottom/ back of brain
• Medulla - controls unconscious actions like breathing and heart rate. Found in brain stem in front of the cerebellum

• Why treating brain damage and disease difficult:

  • brian is complex and delicate/easily damaged
  • Drugs given to treat disease might not always reach brain
  • It’s not fully understood which part of the brain does what
