• Test for Aldehydes & Ketones


  Add 2,4,DNPH (Brady's reagent) > Orange ppt
• Test for Aldehydes H-C=O


  Add AgNO3 + NH3 (Tollen's reagent) > Silver Mirror OR Fehling's solution > Brick Red ppt
• Test for Methyl Ketones C=O


  Warm with I2 and NaOH (Iodoform) > Yellow ppt and Antiseptic Smell
• Test for Carboxylic Acids O=C-OH


  Add Na2CO3 > Effervescence due to CO2
• Test for Alkanes C-C & Alkenes C=C


  Add Br2 water > Alkane (Orange-brown/no change) Alkene (Bromine water decolourises)
• Test for Alcohols -OH


  Add acidified potassium dichromate(VI) > orange to green (primary & secondary only)
