Unit 9: Applications of Forces and Transfer of Energy

Cards (9)

  • SI Unit for Force is newton (N).
  • Contact forces

Frictional force, elastic force, tension force
  • Non-contact forces

    Gravitational force, magnetic force
  • To calculate weight
Weight = Mass x Gravitational field strength
    (N) (Kg) (N/kg)
  • When a force is applied on a stationary object, it can cause it to start moving.
  • When a force is applied on an already moving object, it can cause it to:
    • increase in speed
    • decrease in speed
    • change its direction of movement
  • Resultant force is the overall force after considering all forces acting on a body.
  • A resultant force can also be known as net force.
  • When forces are unbalanced, there will be a net/resultant force.
