  • Communication is the creation or exchange of thoughts, ideas, emotions, between senders and receivers. It is essential in building and maintaining relationships in the workplace.
  • Communication is an avenue for dissemination of information in order to be understood.
  • Communication in the workplace transpires when there is transmission of information between one person and group of persons in an organization. Examples of this kind of communication are minutes, memo, requests, business/ technical/ incident reports, letters, emails, text messages, voicemails, notes, etc.
  • Grapevine is an informal channel of business communication.
  • It is Grapevine is called because it stretches throughout the communication in all directions irrespective of the authority levels. Despite existence of formal channels in an organization, the informal channels tend to develop when one interacts with other people in organization.
  • Grapevine exists more at lower levels of organization.
  • Minutes are written or recorded documentation that is used to inform attendees and non-attendees about what was discussed and what happened during a meeting.

  • A meeting agenda is a road map meeting. It provides the plan for meeting and a sense of direction and purpose.
  • Detailed Minutes provides a record of all information not necessarily word for word but a summary of the discussion and action on all agenda items.
  • Verbatim Minutes are recorded information of exact words of participants during the assembly.
  • Quorum refers to the required number of participants in a meeting.
  • Caucus pertains to an informal assembly of small group that concerns decisions, policies and mainly preparation of agenda.
