Findings (Attachment Styles)

• Reaction to Stranger (Stranger Anxiety):

  Insecure Avoidant/Anxious (Type A): plays with stranger regardless of mother's presence -> doesn't check for mother's presence

  Secure (Type B): is indifferent to stranger when mother is present but ignores stranger when alone(stranger fear)

  Insecure Resistant/ Anxious (Type C): shows fear of the stranger + avoids stranger with or without mother being present
• Reaction to Separation from Mother (Separation Anxiety):

  Insecure Avoidant/Anxious (Type A): is not distressed at mother's absence + can seek comfort from stranger

  Secure (Type B): becomes upset + distressed when mother leaves

  Insecure Resistant/Anxious (Type C): intense reaction to mother's absence -> child is clearly distressed
• Reaction to Reunion with Mother (Reunion Joy):

  Insecure Avoidant/Anxious (Type A): shows no interest in mother's return

  Secure (Type B): is happy when mother returns in 1st and 2nd reunions + is quickly settled -> child easily calms + exploring resumes

  Insecure Resistant/Anxious (Type C): child wants the comfort of mother but may push her away when approached -> resists comfort even if its desired
