  • Coding
Coding is the way that we integrate and transfer information into the relevant memory store. Investigated by Baddeley.
  • Coding: Baddeley
Baddeley investigated whether coding is acoustic or semantic. 75 participants were given one of 4 lists; acoustically similar or dissimilar and semantically similar or dissimilar. They were then given a list with the original words but in the wrong order and had to reorder them immediately (testing STM) or with a 20 minute interval (testing LTM). They found that STM is coded acoustically and LTM is coded semantically.
