Required practical 3 : Effects of osmosis on plant tissue

• Step 1 : Use A cork borer to cut 4 to 5 cylinders of potato, remove skin (insoluble)
• Step 2 : cut the potato to the same length with a ruler and scalpel
• Step 3 : Measure initial mass with mass balance
• Step 4 : place each potato into a test tube containing 10cm^3 of water or sugar solution
• Step 5 : leave overnight (12-24 hours)
• Step 6 : remove the potato Cylinders and gently roll them on a paper towel to remove excess water
• Step 7: measure final length and mass
• Step 8 : calculate percentage change in volume using formula %change = ((final - initial) / initial ) x 100
• Step 9 : repeat each concentration 3 times and calculate mean
