p4 l3 (Sensory & perceptual dev)

Cards (20)

  • Sensation
the product of the interaction between information and the sensory receptors-the eyes, ears, tongue, nostrils, and skin
    when we use our senses
  • Perception
the interpretation of what is sensed
when we understand what we senses
  • Ecological view (gibsons)

states that we directly perceive information that exists in the world around us
  • called ecological because "it connects perceptual capabilities to information available in the world of the perceiver"
  • Perception brings people in contact with the environment to interact with and adapt it
  • Affordances
opportunities for interaction offered by objects that fit within our capabilities to perform activities
  • VISUAL PREFERENCE METHOD
used to determine whether infants can distinguish one stimulus from another by measuring the length of time they attend to different stimuli.
  • Habituation
decreased responsiveness to a stimulus after repeated presentations of the stimulus.
  • Dishabituation
recovery of a habituated response after a change in stimulation. (nawala na ‘yung effect ng habituation)
  • Newborns are nearsighted, by 6 mos, their vision becomes 20/40 by average.
  • Infants spend more time looking at their mother’s face than a stranger’s as early as 12 hours after being born.
  • COLOR VISION
    • 4th to 8th week can discriminate some colors
    • 4 months have color preferences
    • 4-5 months looked longer at reddish hues, shortest at greenish hues
  • PERCEPTUAL CONSTANCY
infant’s perception goes beyond the information provided by senses.
  • size constancy
the recognition that an object remains the same even though the retinal image of the object changes as you move toward or away from the object
  • shape constancy
the recognition that an object's shape remains the same even though its orientation to us changes
  • DEPTH PERCEPTION
infant’s perception goes beyond the information provided by the senses
  • PERCEPTION OF OCCLUDED OBJECTS
maraming brain activity sa visual cortex, syempre kapag baby ka ayon lang ang laman ng perception mo (?)
  • OTHER SENSES
Fetus can hear during the last two months of pregnancy
  • INTERMODAL PERCEPTION

the ability to relate and integrate information from two or more sensory modalities.
  • PERCEPTUAL-MOTOR COUPLING
The way perceptual and motor development are coupled with each other
