  • Gender Socialisation
    the process in which children learn what is expected of them and how to act like a boy or a girl
  • Manipulation
    meaning girls and boys are encouraged to take part in activities that are considers gender appropriate, physical activity like rugby for as boy
  • Verbal Appellations

    Verbal appellations refers to the way boys and girls are rebuked for behaviour which is appropriate for their gender. E.g. 'brave boy,' 'sweet girl'.
  • Canalisation
    Parents select toys for their children that reflect gender roles. For example a doll for a girl and a truck for a boy
  • Identity
    the way people define themselves and different thing or qualities that make you who you are. it is also how others see you.
  • Role models
    Parents and other family members serve as role models for children. Children observe and imitate the behaviors, attitudes, and values of their family members, shaping their own behavior in the process. E.g. girls imitate their mothers by applying make up and doing house work
  • Nature Theory 

    how our genetics determine our behaviour as we were born with out traits and abilities. For example the jim twins.
