  • PREAMBLE
    We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Divine Providence, in order to establish a Government that shall embody our ideals, promote the general welfare, conserve and develop the patrimony of our Nation, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of democracy under a regime of justice, peace, liberty, and equality, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.
  • THE TERM OF THE PRESIDENT
    The President shall be elected by direct vote of the people for a term of six years which shall begin at noon on the thirtieth day of June following the day of the election and shall end at noon of the same date six years thereafter when the term of his successor shall begin

    Philippine Congress passed a resolution calling for a constitutional convention to change the 1935 Constitution.

    • the constitutional Convention finished their work and signed the new constitution.
    • President Marcos sent it to the people for approval in the referendum in barangay assemblies.
    • Barangay assemblies were created in towns and cities where people were orally asked if they were going to approved the new constitution
    • And 95% of the voters approved the new constitution
  • January 17, 1973
    •  President Ferdinand E. Marcos signed the new constitution and said it was now effective. 
    • The new constitution was protested by many Filipinos in the supreme court claiming that it was not legal but the supreme court said that the new constitution will proceed
