Layout
is the arrangement of graphic
elements on a page.
It describes the placement of elements of equal weight
on the page. The three types of balance are symmetric,
asymmetric and radial.
Balance
It describes the flow of elements on the page. Visual
elements guide the viewers’ eye around the page.
Movement
The sense of oneness of the elements that creates
balance and harmony.
Unity
It describes the consistence and balanced repetition of a
design or element. An example is infographics that
applied repetition to the design.
Repetition
It describes the organization and relationship of the
elements included in the design.
Proximity
It is the combination of the opposing characteristics of
an element like color, size, thickness, and among
elements. It allows emphasis on key elements.
Contrast
An area in the design that catches viewer’s attention. The
area may appear different in size, color, texture or shape.

Variety
Pattern-
combination of elements or
shapes repeated in a recurring and
regular arrangement.
Rhythm-
combination of elements
repeated, but with variations.
Proportion
Visual elements create a sense of unity
where they relate well with one another.
Variety
This uses several design elements to
draw a viewer’s attention.
infographics
are
used to represent information, statistical
data or knowledge in a graphical manner
usually done in a creative way to attract
the viewer’s attention. Infographics make
complex data become more visually
appealing to an average user.

The
Story
The purpose behind an infographic is to tell a story. Without
a story, an infographic is just a graphic. Ask yourself:
Data
The most important component of an
infographic is accurate data.
Copy
Once your data has been sourced and is nicely
organized, it’s time to write copy. You need
snippets of copy to provide context to the data and
to tie the overall story together.
Design
The design of an infographic should be based
on the story. For example, if your
infographic is about nature, then it should
include design elements and colours from
nature.
Graphs
and
Charts
The type of graph or chart used depends on the data
and the story. For example, when displaying data
about people, consider showing human silhouettes
in a chart. When appropriate, replace numbers with
graphical elements.
