Transverse waves

Cards (10)

  • Transverse Waves
    Is a wave in which the particles of the medium vibrates perpendicular to the direction of motion of the waves.
  • Amplitude(A)
    The maximum displacement of a particle from its position of rest.
  • Rest Position
    This is the position where there is no displacement of the particles.
  • Crest(V)
    The highest point of a wave, at its maximum displacement from its position of rest.
  • Trough(x)
    The lowest point of a wave,at its maximum displacement from its position of rest in the opposite direction.
  • Wavelength(λ)

    The distance between two consecutive points in phase.
  • Frequency(f)

    The number of wave pulses(waves)per second .
    Unit for measuring Frequency: Hertz(Hz).
  • Period(T)
    The time taken for one complete wave pulse to pass a point.
  • Formulas
    V=V=x/tx/△t
    V=V=fλf λ
    T=T=1/f1/f
  • speed is influenced by:

    • The density of the medium
    • the tension of the medium
    • The elasticity of the medium
