  • How did communication affect the nature of warfare?
The British made extensive preparations for a French naval invasion between 1803-1805. They used semaphore telegraphs, a system of conveying information by means of visual signals, to communicate messages between Dover and London. However, as there was no naval invasion this had a limited impact for the British.
  • how did communication affect the outcome?
There was very little impact on the outcome of wars during this
period – mainly because of the absence of communications
technology. It could perhaps be argued that as a result of there
being no other forms of communication, Napoleon had to be
present on the battlefield and was therefore more able to dictate his commands.
