    • Improves quality of life

    Reflection stage: Examine demands (needs, wants, goals, values) and resources (Human: Time, people, skills; Material: Money, tools, equipment, Community: Public transport, education, shops)

    1. Planning: Identify goal, gather information, consider options and consequences, decide on action, identify resources
    2. Organising: Plan who does what, select resources, organise plan/order of work
    3. Doing: Carry out action, monitor work, adjust work if necessary

    1. Evaluate: Have you met your goal? Were resources used to their best potential? Was the task carried out in the most efficient order? Was the result satisfactory? What changes should be made for next time?
    2. Feedback should be used to contribute to inputs and throughputs for next time
  • Factors that affect family management

    • Employment patterns- part time, one parent at home, dual workers
    • Stage in the life cycle- young children, babies, teenagers, adults, elderly
    • Values- priorities and important aspects of family life
    • Composition of the family- special needs, elderly parent, young children
    • Dual roles- both parents work
    • Culture- customs, traditions, gender roles, religion
    • Socio-economic status- wealth, education, occupation
    • Gender roles- allocation of chores/jobs in the home between males/females

    1. Define decision or identify goal
    2. Gather information, consider alternative options
    3. Consider consequences of each alternative
    4. Decide on a solution
    5. Draw up resources list and a plan of action
    6. Implement plan- carry it out
    7. Evaluate with feedback

    • Needed to manage home and achieve goals-talk and listen to all family members, share opinions, discuss issues, share feelings
    • Needed to make decisions for the family
    • Needed to resolve conflict (e.g. compromise)
    • Needed to evaluate the management of the home and give feedback
    • Good communication improves self-esteem as the person is listened to and their views taken into consideration
