Open System: Family avail of systems outside their boundaries (e.g. doctor, library, school, shops)
Closed System: Family only use systems within its own boundaries (e.g. Amish Community)

Environmental Resources- light, heat, water
Material Resources- money, tools, equipment

1. Planning: Identify goal, gather information, consider options and consequences, decide on action, identify resources
2. Organising: Plan who does what, select resources, organise plan/order of work
3. Doing: Carry out action, monitor work, adjust work if necessary

1. Evaluate: Have you met your goal? Were resources used to their best potential? Was the task carried out in the most efficient order? Was the result satisfactory? What changes should be made for next time?
2. Feedback should be used to contribute to inputs and throughputs for next time
