  • 1547: 16,000 Men, 4,000 Cavalry, 30 Warships and 50 Supply Ships invaded Scotland. Scottish defeated at the Battle of Pinkie. 25 Garrisons established on the border between 1547-49.
  • 1548: Marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots to Prince Francis of France. 10,000 French troops arrived in Scotland
  • 1549: Western and Kett Rebellions.
    French withdrew from Scotland
  • 1550: England forced into Treaty of Boulogne after Henry II attacked it. England and France formed defensive alliance, with promise of a marriage between Edward VI and Elizabeth, Daughter of Henry II. Boulogne returned to France for 400,000 Crowns and England retreated from Scotland.
  • 1552: Scottish border restored to pre-Henry VIII state
    England put cloth embargo on Netherlands after Charles V's collapse of the Antwerp cloth market.
  • £600,000 spent on wars, Garrisons cost £200,000 a year and no objectives were met - FAILURE
