blood and circulatory system

• vena cava- right atrium-right ventricle- pulmonary artery- (lungs)- pulmonary vein- left atrium- left ventricle- aorta
• the pacemaker is the right atrium
• coronary artery provides the heart itself with blood
• the right side pumps de-oxygenated blood to the lungs
• the left side pumps oxygenated blood to the body
• arteries- away from the heart, high pressure, no veins, thick walls
• veins- blood to the heart, thin walls, valves, low pressure
• capillaries- vital for gas exchange , one cell thick, connect other blood vessels, very low pressure
• plasma- liquid part of blood, contains dissolved substances,
• red blood cells - carry oxygen from the lungs and have a large surface area
• white blood cells - fight infectious disease
• platelets- clot blood to stop bleeding
