  • clitoris- sensitive fold of tissue partially covered by hood
  • perineum- area located between the vaginal opening and the anus. this can be torn during childbirth
  • areola- the dark-colored circle at the tip of the breast
  • colostrum- first secretion from the breast that contains nutrients and immunities that can protect baby
  • menstruation- the shedding of the uterine lining and the shedding of blood
  • follicular phase- which follicles in the ovaries mature and prepare to release an egg
  • ovulation- release of a mature egg from the ovary
  • luteal phase- the development of the corpus luteum, the secretion of progesterone, the preparation of the endometrium for implantation of a fertilized egg
  • cephalic- the head-first delivery of a baby
  • breech- backward presentation of cephalic
