Flowering plants

Cards (12)

  • Factors affecting photosynthesis:
    1. Co2 concentration
    2. Light intensity
    3. Temperature
  • Test for starch
    1. Place leaf in boiling water : to stop all chemical reactions
    2. Boil leaf in ethanol
    3. Using water bath
    4. Wear safety goggles
    5. Add iodine solution
  • Test for light
    1. Take leaf from same plant
    2. Put black tape on one of the leaves
    3. Leave out in same light intensity + conditions
    4. Test for starch
  • Test for Co2
    1. Put two leaves in bell jar
    2. Put potassium hydroxide in one belljar
    3. Leave for a day
    4. Test for starch
  • Before all experiments.....

Leave plant in dark room to stop photosynthesis/destarch plant
  • Test for Chlorophyll
    1. Get a variegated leaf & normal leaf
    2. Tape green areas of variegated leaf with black tape
    3. Expose to the same conditions
    4. Test for starch
  • Nitrate ions
    1. For amino acids
    2. For protiens
    3. For growth
    4. Lack of = yellowing of leaves + poor growth
  • Magnesium ions

    For production of cholorphyll/chloroplasts
  • Potassium
    1. Production of enzymes for photosynthesis
    2. Lack of = poor growth, poor fruit, brown spots
  • Seed germination
    1. Before germination seeds have food reserves (starch)
    2. When in contact with oxygen + water, starts germinating
    3. Food reserves convert to glucose for respiration
  • Virus which effects plants
    1. Tabaco mosaic virus
    2. Discolours leaves, less photosynthesis
  • How does style tissue help tube grow?
    1. Tissue provides glucose for respiration
    2. Supplies amino acids for growth
    3. Supplies water
