  • EUCHARIST came from the Latin word "EUCHARISTIEN" which means “thanksgiving.”
  • EUCHARIST - Centerpiece of the seven sacraments.

  • We must therefore consider the Eucharist as:
    • thanksgiving and praise to the Father:
    • the sacrificial memorial of Christ and his Body;
  • In all the Eucharistic Prayers we find after the words of the institution a prayer called the anamnesis or memorial.
  • Pope - is associated with every celebration of the Eucharist, wherein he is named as the sign and servant of the unity of the universal Church.
  • Bishop - of the place is always responsible for the Eucharist, even when a priest presides
  • The Council of Trent (15...) - summarizes the Catholic faith by declaring: "Because Christ our Redeemer said that it was truly his body that he was offering under the species of bread, it has always been the conviction of the Church of God, and this holy Council now declares again, that by the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood."

  • The Eucharist is essentially an act of Thanksgiving (eucharistein) to the Father, a memorial (anamnesis) of Christ's Pasc, and an invocation (epiclesis) of the Holy Spirit.
