  • Must follow Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations route. (SQE)
  • SQE is regulated by Solicitors’ Regulation Authority.
  • To qualify through the SQE route, candidates must:
    • Have a degree (or equivalent) in any subject
    • Pass SQE1 and SQE2 assessments
    • Undertake a minimum of two years Qualifying Work Experience (QWE)
    • Show you are of satisfactory character and suitability
  • SQE1 tests ‘functioning legal knowledge’ i.e. the application of law based on realistic client-based scenarios.
  • SQE2  tests the practical legal skills required for practice, including:
    • Interviewing (with written attendance note taking/legal analysis)
    • Advocacy
    • Legal writing
  • SQE is only an exam, not a course.
  • Order; Any degree, SQE prep, SQE1 exams, 24 Months QWE, SQE2 exams, Qualify!
  • Why did the SQE replace previous LPC? - removed LPC gamble, spending £15,740 with no guarantee of training contract. Widens access.
  • Since the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 solicitors are eligible for appointment to the higher courts.
