  • Mission to the poor and disadvantaged
• Early Church:

  • within 30 years of Jesus's death and resurrection, the Gospel had spread through out the Mediterranean world by Jesus's disciples
  • Thomas is said to have founded the Church in India
  • The Book of acts is all about the early church
  • The Book of Romans talks about what to do
• 19th century church

  • number of societies had trained people to go overseas on mission
  • Christianity is the majority religion of britain
  • Missionaries lived among foreign colonies and learned the native language
  • Missions were a part of colonisation
• Modern Day- abroad

  • Support for missionary families financially and through prayer
  • May fund accommodation, food and general living costs
  • can be done by students
• Modern day- local

  • less conversion
  • more about outreach to local communities
  • charity work
