Photosynthesis

Subdecks (4)

Cards (21)

  • Plants use light for their source of energy
  • Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction
  • Photosynthesis takes place in the leaves of a plant, because they contain chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy.
  • Carbon dioxide + water --> light & chlorophyll --> glucose + oxygen
  • The more photosynthesis takes place, the faster the rate gets as there is more energy for it
  • Limiting factors:
    • Light intensity
    • Carbon dioxide
    • Amount of chlorophyll in the leaf
    • Temperature
  • If the temperature gets too high, the enzymes will denature and photosynthesis will no longer be able to take place
  • Once the rate of photosynthesis stops increasing on a graph plotted against a limiting factor, this means that the factor in question is no longer the limiting factor.
