  • Tagged out happens when:
    • the ball is caught before it touches the ground
    • a base runner is tagged by a fielder before they reach the base
    • a ground ball is fielded and thrown to the base
    • a fielder holding the ball touches the base that the base runner aims to reach
    • a strike out or when a third strike is fouled off
    • a runner advances to the next base before the pitcher releases the ball
  • Foul ball:
    • no limits as long as it doesn't happen consecutively
    • the pitcher just keeps throwing a pitch until the batter gets on base or gets out
    • bunting is an exception; a bunted foul ball with two strikes is an out
