Preparing and Interpreting Technical Drawing (PITD)

Cards (17)

  • 2D
    • Two dimensional, objects that are rendered visually on paper, film or on screen in two planes representing width and height
  • 3D
    • Three-dimensional or something that has width, height and depth or length
  • Technical Drawing

An act or discipline of creating models or plans to build something through designs. It includes blueprints, schematics and diagrams that communicate how to construct a product, device, machine, highway, or home
  • Types of Technical Drawing

    • Schematic Diagram
    • Charts
    • Block Diagrams
    • Lay-out Plans
    • Pictorial Diagram
  • Schematic Diagram

A picture that shows something in a simple way, using symbols. A picture that represents the components of a process, device or other object using abstract, often standardized symbols and lines
  • Charts
A graphical representation of data. A flowchart is a graphical representation of decisions and their results mapped out in individual shapes
  • Block Diagrams
A visual representation of how parts of an object relate to each other and work together
  • Lay-out Plans
A floor plan is a scaled diagram of a room or building viewed from above. The floor plan may depict an entire building, one floor of a building, or a single room
  • Pictorial Diagram

Uses pictures to represent the different components of a particular system. Pictorial diagrams can vary in level of detail
  • Basic Symbols of Flowchart

    • Terminator
    • Process
    • Decision
    • Input and Output
    • Connector
    • Arrow Lines
  • Terminator
A small rectangle with curved corners. A terminator appears at the start and at the end of a flowchart. The end terminator appears only once on a single flowchart
  • Process
A rectangle. It refers to an action in a business process. It must be described clearly and concisely. A process can be described using a single verb noun phrase
  • Decision
A diamond. A process that can answer a decision of "yes" or "no" requires a decision box
  • Input and Output

The Parallelogram features Input and Output, which cover such things as materials, services, and even individuals going into or exiting the process
  • Connector
A small circle or a connector box and is labelled using letters. A flowchart written on a single page is clearer than a flowchart on several pages. A connector ensures that the processes are connected logically and correctly on several pages
  • Arrow Lines

Arrow lines drawn in one direction, preferably from top to bottom, keep a flowchart clear. Avoid arrow lines that loop because this could indicate redundancy in the business process
  • How to create a Flowchart

    1. Identify Tasks
    2. Organize and Document Tasks
    3. Test
