Excitatory Synapses

Cards (2)

  • During neurotransmission, the synaptic vesicles containing the neurotransmitter are released into the synaptic cleft to the post-synaptic neuron, where receptors may trigger a change in the cells. This change is either excitatory or inhibitory.
  • Excitatory synapses increase the likelihood that the neuron will fire an action potential.
