  • accidents:
    • support worker injuring their back while handling wheel chair
    • child swallowing a small toy
    • adult with learning disabilities cutting hand with knife while cooking unmonitored
  • Exposure to infections
    Exposure to hazardous substances such as cleaning materials
    • classified as very toxic , harmful , corrosive
    • could be because of spillages or poor working practices ( not stored or handled safely )
  • Spillages:
    • bodily fluid spillages - blood, urine , vomit
    • hazardous substance spillages - cause injuries such as poisoning and burns
    • other spillages can be slip hazards
  • intruders:
    • lack of effective security systems
    • intruders cause damage , loss and Phycological upset
    • can cause harm to staff and users
  • aggressive and dangerous encounters
    • intoxication , angry people , those with conditions such as dementia can be aggressive

    • fire safety includes knowing how to prevent fires from starting and spreading
    • fires only start when There’s oxygen, fuel and heat
    • essential that staff know what to do in case of fire
  • floods:
    • growing concern due to weather conditions
    • caused by equipment or maintenance issues
    • cause long term damage to premises and spread of waterborne diseases
  • Loss of water / power
    • mean a leak of breakage - maybe due to inadequate checks
    • serious impacts on care provisions - medical equipment not working
    • drinking water and washing hands effected
