  • non fatal accidents requiring hospital treatment to non workers
  • industrial diseases
• don’t report to HSE

  • Intruders or aggressive individuals
  • fire , floods , abuse and illness
  • loss of water supply
  • food poisoning
• main categories of response:

  1. Asses the situation / care requirements
  2. report accidents / incident
  3. evacuate
  4. follow up review of critical incidents and emergencies
  5. report to relevant authorities ( RIDDOR / HSE )
• 1. asses the situation

  • asses environments for hazards / threats
  • asses any harm or care requirements
  • seek medical help if necessary
  • raise the alarm
  • investigate the incident
• responded to aggressive and dangerous encounters

  • being calm
  • alerting other staff
  • speaking firmly and clearly
  • keeping others away from situation
  • call police if situation becomes dangerous
• every workplace must have:

  • suitably stocked first aid kit
  • appointed person to take charge of first aid
  • information for all employees , telling them about first aid arrangements
• first aid —> initial treatment when someone had accident
