Shi'a Muslims believe that Ali, Muhammad's cousin and son in law, should have been named successor (about 5-15%)
Sunni Muslims belive Abu Bakr suceeded Muhammad as leaders of Islam (80-95%)

Give messages from god to Muslims —> always complete Gods tasks and record all thoughts / actions for judgement day —> made of light
Who is Angel jibril? 
Angel who to which God revealed the Quran —>believed he also taught Muhammad how to pray
How does Angel jibril influence Muslims 
They'll take teachings of the Quran seriously (as it's the infallible word of God) and follow rules and practises of the book

Angel of mercy or sustenances who rewards those who have led a good life
How does Angel Mika'il influence Muslims ? 
Reassures Muslims that mercy and rewards of eternal life are possible

Who are the angels Izrail and Israfil? 
Izrail: Angel of death who takes souls from bodies when people die so they can enter the afterlife

Israfil: he will blow the trumpet on judgement day
What do muslims believe will happen to life after death? 
(Akhirah)- Soul will enter barzakh(a state of waiting until judgement day)-when they die their soul is taken by Azra’il (the Angel of death)-god sends two angels to question the waiting soul-if the questions are answered correctly then the soul is good and sleeps during Barzakh —> if not the soul is tormented by angels
What is Jannah? 
Paradise —> some believe it's a continuous journey to Allah
What is Jahannam? 
Hell —>some say it's symbolic not literal —> all have a chance to go to heaven but those who ignore it go to hell but eventually everyone goes to paradise
How do Jahanna and Jahannam influence Muslims? 
-feel fear so follow rules
-hope that justice will prevail
-hope that death it's not the end
-hope that good will eventually prevail
How is hell described?
Place of fire and torment with switching fire pits and boiling water —>place of physical and spiritual suffering
How is heaven described? 
A beautiful garden with 7 layers (Adam and eve in the first and Abraham in the 7th)
How will a belief in judgement day influence Muslims? 
-encourages them to live in a good way
-abide by Gods laws
-take responsibility for their wrongdoings
-pray + ask for forgiveness
What is predestination? (Al - Qadr)
Idea that God has already decided everything that will happen in their lives
What do Sunni Muslims believe about predestination? 
- Allah gave humans free will, but he still knows what will happen because he is Al - Alim.
- Nothing happens except the will of Allah
- Free will is important to help people learn and to freely submit to Allah.
- Giving free will means bad things can happen and that humans are responsible for their sin.
-if something bad happens it's gods plan
What do Shi'a Muslims believe about predestination? 
They reject predestination, as they believe it contradicts judgement day
It is not fair for Allah to punish or reward someone for something that he predestined them to do —> God knows what choices people will make but they still have free will to make these choices themselves
What is the Imamate in Shi'a Islam? 
Title given to a line of descendentes of Muhammad (12 of them all together)
How does the idea of Imamate influence Muslims? 
- go to imams for help (as they're the only people who can truly understand the Quran + shariah law)
-believe they protect the religion and guide Muslims
Importance + influence of Adam 
- exemplar if stewardship and forgiveness
-first prophet
-built the Ka'aba and taught life is eternal
- task was to be a steward for the world
-he did wrong but relented and Allah was merciful and forgave him —> shows muslims that God listens and forgives you

- exemplar if faith
-God asked him to sacrifice his son and he was willing
- God was pleased and sent a ram for sacrifice instead —> teaches Muslims to apply the test if faith to their own lives

- god revealed the Quran through him
- seal of all prophets
-Angel Jibril taught him how to pray —> the way all Muslims pray now —> important action comes from him

Why are prophets important 
- They set an example to Muslims on how to live.
- It is part of the Six articles of faith and the 5 roots of 'Usal ad-din
- They were ordinary people. This teaches Muslims that they should have nothing to do with religions that claim divine status for their leaders.
