Enzymes

• Enzymes are catalysts produced by living things
• Enzymes reduce the need for high temperatures and we only have enzymes to speed up useful chemical reactions in the body
• Enzymes need the right temperature and pH
• higher temp increases the rate of reaction at first
• If it gets too hot,some of the bonds holding the enzyme together break
• Too hot changes the shape of the enzymes active site so the substrate wont fit anymore. Enzyme is denatured
• All enzymes have an optimum temperature at which they work best.
