  • MICROSCOPY - Put specimen on a microscope slide
    to view onion cells:
    add 1 drop of water to clean slide
    cut up onion and seperate into layers,use tweezers to peel of some epidermal tissue from the bottom of one of the layers
    Place epidermal tissue into water on slide
    add 1 drop of iodine solution (is a stain)
    place a cover slip on top stand cover slip upright on the slide and carefully tilt and lower so it covers the specimen with no air bubbles
  • MICROSCOPY 2 - Clip prepared slide into the stage
    select lowest powered objective lens (least magnification)
    use the coarse adjustment knob to move stage up to judt below objective lens
    look down the eyepiece,adjust until image is roughly in focus
    adjust with fine adjustment knob until a clear image
  • MICROSCOPY 3 - draw what you see under the microscope using a pencil
    do not include colour or shading
    subcellular structures should be in proportion
    include a title
    label important features
  • Effect of pH on Enzyme Activity -
    1 drop of iodine solution into every well of a spotting tile
    place a bunsen burner on a heat proof mat,and a tripod and gauze over the burner. put beaker of water on top of tripod and heat the water until its 35*C
    add 1cm(cubed) of amylase solution and 1cm(cubed) of a buffer solution with a pH of 5 to a boiling tube. using test tube holders,put the tube into beaker of water for 5 mins
