• monotheism is the belief in one God
• polytheism is the belief in multiple Gods
• an atheist is a person who does not believe in the existence of God
• an agnostic person is someone not sure sure of the existence of god
• a theist is someone who believes in the existence of God
• omnipresent means that God is everywhere
• omniscient means that God knows everything
• omnipotent means that God is all powerful
• omnibenevolent means that God is all loving
• 4 attributes of god - omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, omnibenevolent
• moral evil are acts of humans considered to be morally wrong eg murder
• natural evil are natural disasters out of human control eg earthquakes
• problem of evil and suffering - if god is omnibenevolent then evil and suffering should'nt exist
• two types of evil - moral evil and natural evil
• divergent solutions to the problem of evil and suffering - vale of soul making , prayer and charity , free will defense
• vale of soul making - environment where humans can overcome evil by making good choices
• prayer and charity - can bring the community together and closer to god
• Holy trinity - father, son, holy spirit
• son - performed miracles , born of the virgin mary
• father - continues to care for us like a father , created everything
• holy spirit - invisible power of god which breathes new life into people
• atonement - mending our relationship with god that we have broken once before
• resurrection - when Jesus christ came back to life after he died
• salvation - God saving the world from evil and sin
• Incarnation - a person who embodies another person
• Jesus is god incarnate
• pentecost - festival where christians celebrate the holy spirit
• on the day of pentecost - holy spirit gave Jesus deciples gifts
• gifts of revelation - word of wisdom , word of knowledge , discerning of spirits
• word of wisdom - helps to solve problems
• word of knowledge - divine knowledge or insight
• discerning of spirits - detect prescense of spirits and plans
• gifts of inspiration - prophecy , diverse kinds of tongues , interpretation of tongues
• prophecy - supernatural utterance in the native tongue
• diverse kinds of tongues - utterances in other languages not known to speaker
• interpretation of tongues - supernatural ability to interpret what is being spoken
• christians belive god created the world in 7 days
• first day - god created light and dark , night and day
• second day - god created the sky to seperate the waters
• third day - god created the land and the sea
