Tulving (1985) criticised the MSM's view of LTM for being too simplistic.
there are three LTM stores:
episodic
procedural
semantic
Episodic memory is a part of the LTM responsible for storing information about events that we have experienced in our lives.
It involves conscious thought and is time stamped.
Semantic memory is a store of general knowledge about facts and concepts.
These memories need to be recalled deliberately but are not time stamped.
Procedural memory includes memories of learned skills.
Does not require conscious effort and is not time stamped.
