  • Rudder is a flat piece or structure of wood or metal causing the vessel’s head to turn.
  • Propeller is a rotating device which drives a ship through water.
  • Stern is the after back end of a vessel.
  • Bow is the forward end of a vessel.
  • Keel is the principal fore and aft member of a ship’s frame.
  • Hull is the body of a ship, including shell plating.
  • Superstructure: Deck houses and navigating bridge which are located above shelter deck.
  • Accommodation area is the house for crews and lives. It has all the amenities, including offices, gym, crew cabins, hospital, salon, recreation room, common rooms, laundry, and galley.

  • Anchor is a heavy hook-shaped device for holding a ship at rest in water. It grips the ocean bottom fastened to the ship by a chain.
  • Bow thrusters are a type of propeller-shaped system fitted either on the bow (forward part) and stern part (known as a stern thruster) of the ship.
  • Cargo Gear means all cargo lifting equipment installed onboard and this includes deck cranes, derricks and other lifting appliances.
