  • texture - is the thickness or thinness of the quality of sound in music.
  • musical texture - may be thick or thin, or heavy or light, depending on the layers of being combined.
  • monophonic or monophony - comes from the word mono, which means "one". 

    the monophonic texture has only one melodic line without harmony or counterpoint.
  • counterpoint - is the combination of two or more independent voices or melodies but is harmonically interdependent.
  • homophonic texture, also known as homophony - occurs when the main melody is accompanied by chords like from a guitar or piano.
  • polyphonic comes from the word poly which means "many". this is sometimes called polyphony or counterpoint.
  • composition - has polyphonic texture when two or more voices sing the melody but observe different rhythms.
  • soprano ( the highest female singing voice).
  • alto ( the lowest female singing voice).
  • tenor (the highest male singing voice).
  • bass ( the lowest male singing voice).
  • unison - means to sing a single melody together without any accompanimient.
