The
brahma vihara
are considered to be the ideal qualities and
emotions
for a person to develop
Buddhism says you can control your emotions and choose to be calm, joyous and full of loving kindness over anger and hatred
Mediation cannot create calmness, joy, or loving kindness but it can make conditions where they can develop
A person who has developed bhrama
vihara
is unable to
hate
For Buddhists it is important to meditate on
bhrama viharas
to develop
calmness
joy and loving kindness
Buddhists
will often meditate on one type of bhrama viharas called
metta
, which is called Mettabhavana
Mettabhavana
means to meditate on the
emotion
of lovr
Metta
means love but is translated as loving
kindness
as it is difficult to say what love is
It is not about being affectionate or nice but about showing respect by being considerat, kind, polite
Developing loving kindness helps to stop Tahna
first you develop
self love
secondly you develop love for
friends
and
family
thirdly you develop love for
neutral
people
fourthly
you develop love for
enemies
lastly you develop love for
everyone
