In many ways, the political dominance of the Communist Party led to an increasingly
conservative
political system.
There was
no
place for new ideas or responding to
grassroots
opinion.
Loyalty to
Stalin
and the party was the only important characteristic needed for political advancement.
This made for a rather
stagnant
political system as people feared
criticising
the party line or being innovative.
