  • 5 – 10 um
  • Lemon-shaped with a clear hyaline knob extending from the anterior end
  • Single nucleus
  • Well-defined cytosome
  • Infective stage
• Trophozoite (Chilomastix mesnili)


  • 5 – 25 x 5 – 10 um
  • Pear-shaped
  • 4 flagella; stiff rotatory movement
  • Single nucleus with central or eccentric karyosome; located at anterior end
  • Vacuolated cytoplasm
  • Prominent cytosome
  • Spiral groove

  • Habitat: Large intestine
