Respiration

• Anaerobic respiration happens if :

  • Insufficient oxygen reaches the muscles during periods of intense activity
  • not enough oxygen in soil for plants
• Anaerobic respiration in animals :

  - glucose converted to lactic acid

  - buildup of lactic acid causes stiffness after exercise
• Anaerobic respiration in plant and yeast cells :

  carbon dioxide released form anaerobically respiring yeast cells causes bread to rise

  - glucose converted into ethanol + cO2
• Glucose aint broken down completely in anaerobic respiration making it less efficient in transferring energy
