  • Muscles are made from elongated cells that form fibres.
  • Protein filaments in muscle cells include actin and myosin.
  • Actin and myosin contract to allow movement to occur.
  • Skeletal muscle is attached to the bone. Contraction and relation is controlled using these muscles.
  • Cardiac muscle will only be found in the heart, contracting at a steady rate making the heart beat. This muscle cannot be voluntarily controlled.
  • Smooth muscle will be found in the walls of hollow organs, this muscle cannot be controlled.
