  • Poor to fair prognosis

  • Amenorrhea
  • No organic cause for weight loss
  • Obviously thin but feels fat
  • Refusal to maintain normal BW
  • Epigastric discomfort is common
  • X-ray symptoms (peculiar)
  • Intense fear of gaining weight
  • Always thinking of food
• Complications of anorexia Nervosa cardiac dysrhythmia and hypokalemia
• Bulimia Nervosa also called binge/purge syndrome
• Bulimia Nervosa is the fluctuation of the body weight
• Manifestation of bulimia nervosa includes

  • Binge eating
  • Upchuck
  • Lack of control iver binges
  • Enamel destroyed
  • Minimum of 2 binges
  • Increase persistent concern of body size
  • Abuse laxatives
• Complications

  • Esophageal varices
  • Dental carries
  • Callous finger
  • Chipmunk face
• Management of bulimia Nervosa  includes diet therapy, providing education on normal nutrition and limit setting (behavioral therapy)
• Bulimia Nervosa management includes surveillance 30 min to 1 hr after meal
