Gastrochisis

• Gastroschisis - Is a condition where there is a small defect in the baby’s abdomen (tummy) through which the bowel protrudes outside
• RISKS THAT CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF GASTROSCHISIS:

  • Maternal smoking
  • Maternal Age less than 20 years old
  • Environmental exposure (nitrosamines)
• Signs and Symptoms of Gastroschisis:

  • Stomach, large or small intestines located outside of your baby’s body.
  • Swollen intesitines
  • Twisted Intestines
  • Hypothermia
• Medical Interventions for Gastroschisis:

  • Immediate Stabilization
  • Surgical Repair
• Nursing Intervention for Gastroschisis:

  • Assessment of pain
