  • What is social influence ?
    when our thoughts, beliefs, are influenced by the people around us
  • What is conformity?

    Tendency to adjust one’s thoughts, beliefs and behaviours to match those of a larger groups or social norms
  • What are the 3 types of conformity ?
    1. Compliance
    2. identification
    3. internalisation
  • What is compliance ?
    • going along with others in public
    • not privately changeing opinions/ beliefs / behaviours
    • superficial and temporary change
  • What is identification ?
    • moderate type of conformity
    • sometimes conform to the opinions/ behaviour of the group because there is something about the group we value
    • identify with group as want to be a part of it
    • publicly change but not privately
  • What is internalisation ?
    • deepest level of conformity
    • person genuinely accepts the groups norms
    • permanent change as attitudes are internalised
