• Son of Man


  A title that has a two-fold meaning: 1) The man, 2) Prophecy of Daniel
• This passage shows that the disciples did not fully understand the meaning of ttue discipleship
• The rest of the disciples were angry because of what James and John had asked
• They had not understood the nature of Jesus' messiahship
• The way to greatness is through service to others
• Jesus speaks of himself as the suffering Son of Man


  If the Messiah is to suffer and die, then the disciples may face the same fate
• Jesus makes it clear


  If the disciples want to share in the glory, they must also share in the suffering
• To be powerful is not the aim of the ministry of Jesus


  Greatness in the Kingdom comes through a life of service to God on Earth
• Jesus came to serve, not to be served


  His ministry is one of self-giving service
